3 Tips for a beautiful garden all year round

There’s nothing more depressing than a garden that’s been left to wilt and rot over the winter months. OK, so we don’t spend hour upon hour in the garden during the colder months, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make an effort to keep it looking nice. In fact, keeping on top of the gardening through the Autumn and Winter makes it far easier to get it looking back to it’s best when the summer finally arrives.

If you’re a keen gardener, then you probably already carry out regular garden maintenance throughout the year. But, if like me, you try to do the bear minimum to get by, then there are a few simple things you can do in order to get the best out of your garden all year round.

3 Tips for a beautiful garden all year round

Your garden is one of the very first things that people notice when they first approach your house, particularly if you have a front garden that they actually have to walk through in order to reach your front door! If your garden is run down and scruffy, then they’re already painting a picture in their minds of what you’re like. It’s sad but true! A run-down garden does not give off the best first impression.

So, here are 3 tips to help you to maintain a beautiful garden all year round.

1. Hire the professionals

As a working Mum, I know just how hard it is to fit all the jobs we have into our days. If you enjoy gardening, then great! Gardening is a fantastic hobby! However, if gardening is just another chore, and you’re struggling to find the hours to get it done, then it’s worth contacting local gardening companies to find out what they’d recommend. You may find that you only need a visit once a month during the Autumn and Winter so that your garden can be kept tidy and free of weeds. It’s worth getting a few garden quotes so that you can get a feel for what’s a fair price for the amount of work needed.

2. Have clearly defined areas

If you’ve got young children or animals, then it’s important to have clearly defined areas in your garden. Having a patio just outside your back door is perfect for giving your children a space to play or setting up a table and chairs so that you have somewhere to eat outside during the summer. A firm patio is also a great place for a hammock with a stand where you can relax and enjoy some peace and quiet after a busy week.

If you’re stuck for ideas, or you don’t know the first thing about planning out your garden, it’s a good idea to contact landscape gardeners who will be able to advise you on the best way to create a beautiful, yet practical garden.

3. Opt for perennials

If you don’t want to have to spend time year after year planting new plants, then it’s worth getting hold of perennials.

Perennial plants will return year after year with very little effort from you, making them the perfect choice for an easy to maintain garden.
